Eric H Manton joined the Army 26 april 1930. He served with The Royal Artillery before volunteering for the airborne forces.
He successfully completed his parachute jump instruction at RAF Ringway on Course 3 ADV. This course ran between 21 and 29 January 1942. Eric then joined 1st Para Bn, R Coy, 2 Pln.
Whilst serving on operations in N.Africa, 2 December 1942, Eric was 'wounded in action'. He was wounded with multiple splinters in his eyes and legs, which lead to him being discharged from the Army 10 October 1943.
