Captain Giles N Bromley-Martin

Giles Bromley-Martin was commissioned, as a Second Lieutenant in The Royal Fusiliers (TA) in 1937/38 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1939.

He volunteered for Airborne Forces and was posted to the 3rd Parachute Battalion on the 1st October 1941.

He was on Parachute Course No 2 at RAF Ringway, 18 – 30 November 1941. This was the second course for the new units of the newly formed 1st Parachute Brigade and he attended with his Company Commander, Major DT Dobie, and the 128 of ‘B’ Company, 3rd Parachute Battalion.

Giles was the Second-in-Command of ‘B’ Company, 3rd Parachute Battalion for Operation ‘Torch’, where he took part in the battalion parachute drop at Bone airfield on the 12 November 1942. He was awarded a Mention in Despatches for his actions in North Africa, which was announced in the London Gazette on the 23 September 1943.

He was killed in action on the 26 February 1943.

The son of Granville Edward and Olivia Maude Bromley-Martin, of Chelsea, London, he was 26 years old when he was killed and is buried at Medjez-El-Bab War Cemetery, 2. H. 1, Tunisia.
