George W Bartholomew joined the Hampshire Regiment in 1941 a couple days after turning 18.
He then went to the Cameronions for a while until joining the HQ Coy, 7th LI Battalion of the 6th Airborne in July 1944 and completed his training. George was jump trained at RAF Ringway on Course 128. This course ran between 6 and 21 August 1944. His instructor noted this about his performance:
"Good performer. Rather inattentive"
George was posted to the Ardennes at the end of the 1944 and then jumped in operation Varsity. Once the conflict in Europe was over he went out to the Far East and was part of the relief team of Changi Jail. Finally ended up going to Palestine where he made rank of Sergeant and demobbed 23 November 1947.
