Glenn Wendell Embree was the son of Garnett Wolseley William and Mabel Evelyn Embree, of Vancouver, Canada. He enlisted in the 2nd Bn., Canadian Scottish Regiment on 12 July 1940 and was promoted to Sergeant on 11 May 1941. He qualified as a parachutist at Fort Benning, Georgia, USA and transferred to 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion on 21 January 1943. He was promoted to Warrant Officer Class II (Company Sergeant Major) on 17 May 1943 and arrived in the UK on 28 July 1943. He took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
CSM Embree and the battalion jumped into Normandy on the night of 5/6 June 1944. He was 5’9”, 155 Ibs, fair complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, and 20/20 vision. He was fatally wounded and died on 10 June 1944, aged 23, and was given a field burial on the edge of an orchard at Le Mesnil and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 26 June 1945.
