Sergeant Gordon Davies

Gordon Davies was the son of Evan John and Flocanci Davies; husband of Rosy Davies. He enlisted in the 9th Searchlight Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery on 22 April 1940, and volunteered for airborne forces.

He was 5' 8", 142 Ibs, medium complexion, blue/grey eyes, black hair, 20/20 vision. He arrived in the UK on 26 July 1943.

Sergeant Davies successfully completed his parachute training at Fort Benning, Georgia, USA on 8 October 1942 and was posted to 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps, on 19 November 1942, and later took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Sgt Davies was killed in action on 19 June 1944, aged 25, and was given a field burial at Breville, France. He was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 2 July 1945.
