Robert McLaughlin Boardman was the son of Sidney and Mary McLaughlin Boardman, of Blind Channel, British Columbia, Canada. He enlisted in the Royal Regiment of Canada (The Black Watch) on 16 September 1942 and volunteered for airborne forces.
He was 5' 10", 149 Ibs, medium complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, 20/20 vision
Private Boardman successfully completed his parachute training at Fort Benning, Georgia, USA on 17 December 1942 and was posted to 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps. He arrived in the UK on 24 July 1943 and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Pte Boardman was killed in action on 12 June 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial in Le Menil de Breville Par Barent and re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 27 September 1945.
