For outstanding devotion to duty
Lt Col Field joined 1st Br Airborne Corps as GSO1 (Ops) on 31 October 1944, since when he has worked untiringly and cheerfully on work which has been concerned chiefly in the planning of operations including that for the successful Airborne assault across the RHINE, the evacuation of PWX and the occupation of Denmark and Norway.
During the operation for the crossing of the RHINE he served under XVIII US Airborne Corps in GERMANY acting as liaison officer between that American HQ and HQ 6 Airborne Division in which capacity his special knowledge of airborne matters was of striking value.
Throughout the period his work has been of a consistently high standard, and the results achieved are in no small measure due to Lt Col Field’s pleasant personality and untiring devotion to duty.
