Robert Dickson Glover, son of John Honeyman and Jeanie Simpson Glover, of Lenzie, Lanarkshire, was granted a commission in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.
'Dickson' (as he was known in the family). He was born in Glasgow on 30 November 1918. He attended Glasgow High School. Probably through a school army cadet force, was in the Territorial Army and signed up for active service enlisting as a Gunner, Royal Regiment of Artillery. This was on 1 September 1939 (the day war was declared) and passed fit for service on 2 September 1939.
Lieutenant Glover successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 109 from 27 March to 7 April 1944 and was posted as Officer commanding E Troop, 2nd (Oban) Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Lt Glover was killed in action, aged 25, on 19 September 1944 and was given a field burial in the Arnhem Communal Roman Catholic Cemetery, he was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 27 August 1945.
